Winter Storm Jonas Heading Our Way

Hello everyone...  .
For all of you that have known me for a while my family and I live in North Carolina. We are gearing up for a big and unusual snow and ice storm by the name of Jonas. Most years we just get traces of snow here on the eastern side of the Carolinas but we are right in its path this time. Governor Pat McCrory is already calling for a state of emergency for NC. We are not only getting snow we are getting lots of ice with this storm. Due to my husband's line of work he will still have to go to work in this so please say a prayer for his safety. The kids and I have finished homeschooling for today and have went to the grocery store to stalk up on a few things. I have been making sure all the laundry is done. My husband and I do not normally heat with kerosene heaters (we have central heating and air) but we did go and purchase a kerosene heater along with the container to store the kerosene in and a pump so that if the power goes out here we will still have heat for warmth, light and to my understanding cook on the one that we purchased. We can warm up things like beans and spaghetti O's etc. We purchased bottle water and candles. The heater is something that we thought was a good investment because we have a feeling this year we will see more ice and snow this year due to El Nino. The storm will be coming in tonight and is suppose to end on Saturday evening. So please say a prayer for all of the states involved. I will keep you all posted as soon as I can.

I hope your husband's commute is tolerable! I grew up in the northeast where we would get these storms occasionally. Usually there were no power outages or anything, and I can't remember us personally having any at all in a snowstorm. But it is good to be prepared! Back in 1993 I believe we had 30 inches of snow. I loved watching it fall outside! At least you and the kids can keep the house warm and welcoming for dad when he gets back! A nice warm dinner and smiling family members are so nice to come home to. Stay cozy!

Hi DeNiece,
We are in the storm also. Hubby has the kerosene heaters, candles, batteries and flashlights all set to use.
Will see what this day brings. Snow started about 6:00 AM this morning, no ice yet.
Time to get cozy and keep our eyes on the Lord.
My husband is supposed to go to work too. Let's keep them both in prayer, as well as all who are in the midst of this storm.
Hugs from Shirley

Good Morning DeNice,

So glad to see you posting. Our eldest son and his wife live in N. Carolina also. We live on the Montana prairie where your winter storm is generally our normal winter. However, this winter we have had unusually warm weather and very little snow. I may also suggest, if you are fortunate enough to have two bathtubs, fill one with water. So often many forget extra water for flushing toilets, washing dishes, cleaning up small messes, etc. Depending on the severity of the power outage, you could find your indoor running water service interrupted.

Every autumn, I prep for winter & my motto is: "prepare for the worst & hope for the best".

Praying you and yours are safe and warm,
Mrs.B

I prayed for you all! My parents got the snowstorm already they live in eastern Tennessee and I think they got 10 inches. I don't think they lost their power thankfully.

To the previous commenter, I remember the snow storm of 1993! I was 13 and was so glad we were out of school for over a week but we also lost power and had to live with our uncle down the road for a couple days. That is the biggest snow storm that I remember growing up in Tennessee. I live in Alaska in my twenties and definitely got used to the snow LOL!
