We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done” (Psalm 78:2-4, NKJV).
Hello dear friends....Its has been very busy here at the Barnes home and the summer is in full swing. We are finish homeschooling for the year, we use to home school throughout the year but last year my hubby and I decided to just home school on the same schedule as the traditional school system. We have been thinking about letting them attend public school this year because they have showed interested in it. So we have being praying and will continue to pray and ask God to lead us in this decision. But that is a whole other topic for a later time, but I assure you that everyone will know our decision before traditional school starts back. Its not that they hate homeschooling its just that they would like to try different things and so thus this journey beginnings. But anywhoo this week is vacation bible school at the church we are attending....I love vacation bible school just as much as Sunday school.....I do not remember what the theme is this year,( I was listening when they announced it in church yesterday or was I lol Kenzie was a little cranking doing the service and we don't have a nursery at this church) but it starts tonight from 6-8 and ends on Thursday from 6-8 with a huge cookout Thursday night. So tomorrow I will hopefully share pictures of tonight and will give you the theme this year lol.....and then on Friday the women fellowship ministry group of our church will be going to Bush Gardens in Williamsburg for the weekend we will be back Saturday night..My hubby take off work Friday and he and the kids will spend the day together ready to see how that goes.....But he has my eldest daughter here and she knows the ropes lol (honey if you are reading this I know you will do fine lol......) Well I am off to take the kids to the public library I will see everyone tomorrow in blog land if it is the will of God.......

Hello, I've wondered about you since the move and wondered how you all were doing in your new place...you must be close to Virginia if you can go to Williamsburg for one night. That would be a day long trip for me just to get there.
I hope you enjoy the time away and the fellowship of the other women in your church.
I remember when I had foster babies and no nursery trying to keep them quiet and missing half of what was said in church.
VBS: I asked last week on my blog if anyone was involved in this. I spent many many years teaching when my children were growing up and even one year in the 1990s when I co taught 3 year old. It about wore me out. We had 15 in a small room. Some were not toliet trained so you can imagine how that was. I decided that would be my last year to teach. I think I would like to help with the refreshments, though.
I think the children will find public school very strange after all the years of home schooling. Keep praying, I know God will lead you in the right decision. I'll put you on my prayer list.

Hello! I read about your children's interest in public school and do urge caution--check out Lady Lydia's post about homeschooling/public school:
http://homeliving.blogspot.com/2010/03/importance-of-home-schooling.html
I have sent several of mine to public school, and we live in one of the best districts in the state, and I am sorry I did! This was for elementary school. You have a strong Christian family, so maybe it would be OK...pray without ceasing,
Love from a reader in WA
It sounds like your family has lots of wonderful plans for the summer! It always flies by too fast - hope you have lots of fun!
I would read Voddie Baucham's(and his daughter's) books before I sent my children to a government school. This was our last year of homeschooling. I've been home educating since 1985. Three of our 6 children went to public high school and if I could do it all over I wouldn't send them. It's subtle-they never had any drug or alcohol problems. Our oldest son went to a Christian high school and if I could do it all over he wouldn't go there. Our youngest son homeschooled through high school(mostly using books that used KJ Scriptures-Abeka,Rod and Staff,etc.). I just bought the Christian Liberty Press readers(preschool and Kindergarten) for our oldest granddaughter.
Two good books on this subject are: The Harsh Truth about Public Schools by Bruce Shortt and Public Education Against America by Marlin Maddox. Mary Pride's books are great-The Way Home, All the Way Home, Schoolproof,etc.(home-school.com-with the hyphen). Her magazine-Practical Homeschooling is in our library. The Socialization Trap by Rick Boyer is good. I liked Voddie Baucham's book-What He Must Be...if He Wants to Marry My Daughter. His daughter,Jasmine, has a book-Joyfully at Home. The last 2 years I have been watching our granddaughters and homeschooling high school(our son). I recently ordered a book through rainbowresource.com- The Autobiography of an Ex-colored Man by James Weldon Johnson(I have a "mixed" granddaughter). I ordered Booker T. Washington's autobiography through Abeka books. These homeschool providers have been a blessing and I probably would never have read those books and others if it wasn't for homeschooling. Then there's evolution theory, occultic literature, etc. in the public schools. We used Landmark Freedom Baptist(KJ) for algebra and geometry.
We used Seton Testing Service in April every year. I gave my children the test. We live in New York. We used Spectrum Test Prep workbooks(grades 1-8) every year. They're available at Seton and rainbowresource.com. We homeschooled at the table for 3 hours every morning and had unstructured learning(reading, etc) in the afternoon for 2 hours. Remember Dinah in Genesis 34-she "went out to see the daughters of the land"(KJ). There's corruption there. Alexandra Swann's book-No Regrets-about how her mother homeschooled her and her 9 siblings, encouraged me. We always took off for the summer.
The Creation Museum in Kentucky would be a good family field trip. Have you read their book One Race,One Blood?(Acts 17:26)(answersingenesis) The subtitle is Evolution's Racist Roots. The book was previously titled, Darwin's Plantation. The museum shows that Adam and Eve had medium-brown skin color(like my granddaughter). There's no races-only one race with different amounts of melanin in the skin for color. That's biblical not evolution teaching. Have you heard they are building a life-size Noah's Ark? I get their newsletter.
